Jan David Hanrath (52) is a Dutch architect who has since 2004 specialised in the design of libraries. He has won several awards for the best library in the Netherlands. In addition to a number of projects in the Netherlands he is currently part of the design team for the new central library in Reykjavik (Iceland) and a library design consultant for central libraries in Munich (Germany), Böblingen (Germany) and Zug (Switzerland).
He is also part of a creative think tank called the Ministry of Imagination. The Ministry helps libraries and architects to define the library of the future. A future that is based on the principles of inspiration, creation and participation, with an active role for the library user and in which collaboration with other cultural partners takes centre stage.
